Join us live at the Kamloopa Powwow in Kamloops, British Columbia on June 28-29th, and share your 1-minute business pitch to win funds and the support of the entire community!

Who qualifies?

Any Indigenous person with a business idea or a business of any type and in any industry can pitch for a chance to win cash prizes and gain a community of support.

All contestants get: 

  • Immediate entrance into the Turtle Island Pow Wow Pitch competition.
  • Free access to the Indigenous Startup Program.
  • A Shopify 60-day free trial. 
  • A free .CA domain courtesy of CIRA.
  • The chance to be featured on Pow Wow Pitch Market.

Pow Wow Pitch Schedule

FRIDAY, JUNE 28

3:30 - 4:30 PM - Registration Table Open @ Kamloopa Arbour (dance area)

4:30 - 5:30  PM - First Round @ Kamloopa Arbour

Pitch your business idea or business in 1-minute

7:00 PM - Top 10 Announcement via Text

We will call, text, or email you if you made the Top 10 by 7 PM along with instructions for the next day.

You will need to confirm by 8 PM to secure your spot.

SATURDAY, JUNE 29

8:00 AM - Roll Call @ Kamloopa Arbour

8:30 - 9:30 AM - Mentorship

Top 10 paired with mentors to prepare for Final Pitch.

9:30 - 10:30 AM - Top 10 Pitch to Judges @ Kamloopa Arbour

The Top 10 will take the stage with their final 2-Minute Pitch followed by Q&A with the Judges in front of the audience.

11:00 AM - Winner Announcements and Fan Favourite Voting

 Pow Wow Pitch announces the Kamloopa Winners and Fan Favourite and takes photos!

How to Participate:

STEP 1 - Complete the pre-registration form.
STEP 2 - Purchase your ticket to attend Kamloopa Powwow.
STEP 3 - On Friday, June 28th, meet at 3:30 PM at Kamloopa Arbour in the dance area at the Pow Wow Pitch registration table to check in and receive your name tag and number.
STEP 4 - Line up in the Arbour at 4:15 PM by number to pitch your business.
STEP 5 - Find out if you made the Top 10 by 7 PM via text!

When you pre-register, we will send you all of the details at least 1 week before June 28th.

What to Include in Your 1-Minute Pitch:

  • Introduce yourself and where you are from.
  • Tell us the name of your business and what you want to sell or already sell.
  • Tell us how you would use $25,000 to take your idea or business to the next level.
  • BONUS: Tell us why you want to do this? Who is part of your team? Your traction to date? Your vision for the future?

How your Pitch is scored:

/5 PRESENTATION - Has the entrepreneur communicated their product/service, value proposition and a pathway to sustainability and success?
/5 EXECUTION - Has the entrepreneur convinced the judges that they will follow through on their business goals?
/5 MOTIVATION - Has the entrepreneur clearly communicated how they will use the money to start or take that next step?
/5 COMMUNITY IMPACT - Has the entrepreneur outlined how their initiative will create a positive impact on their community?
